ANY HEP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Uninstall everything related.
Reinstall wmedia player 8, winamp. Vlc player.
Install the all in one codec pack firewater linked.
Install divx, real time alternative and quicktime alternative. (they are on the same site as the all in one codec pack)
Then attempt to play it in wmedia player 8, winamp, vlc player or divx player.
and it still doesn't work install the following and try:

FDDshow MPEG-4 Decoder, It wouldn't hurt to give it a go.
Hope it gets sorted for you!

Make the switch to winamp. It's far more feature rich than WMP will ever be, and far more reliable, and more responsive, and more flexible.
It's pretty much the best thing ever.

Windows Media Player is ok but it doesn't really matter if its not working today and it did yesterday the user of the computer (your self) has oviouslly done something to make it not work, simply follow your steps back and see what you have changed or removed.

Watching surround dvd's can be a bit funny with it, cause it will try and mix a surround track into stereo, which usually doesn't work, which is why I prefer VLC.
