Ever wanted a particular song off MySpace but found that there's no download link? This might be an old method, but it's here for the benefit of those that do NOT know this particular method. You will need to download yourself a copy of Audacity, which is an audio editing/recording program, and it's entirely free. Link. Download/install/open it.

Notice where it says "Line In" in the right hand corner? You'll need to change this to "Stereo Mix", it may read "What-U-Hear" instead, so select it. Now open up the MySpace with the song you want to download!

Simply hit record on Audacity, and hit play on MySpace. Audacity is basically recording whatever sounds you'll hear, things such as Error Messages, notifications, MSN, porn, etc. WILL record also, so make sure you close these programs before doing this. When the song's done, export it as an MP3, done.

However you wouldn't, since sound recorder has a maximum recording time of like, 2 minutes, it exports sound files in WAV as default, and records at something like 96kbps maximum.

Not that myspace quality music is awesome, but I do think everyone should download audacity and have it on their pc. it's a very handy program.

I was thinking along the lines of bands who've either:

- Not released an album/EP of sorts
- Not included the particular track on any release
- Are total dicks about downloading, so you're doing it to stick it to the man (*cough* Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Beatles).

I used to like Audacity.

Then I found Reaper

It seriously shits all over Audacity.

As for exporting to MP3, you will need to get the lame_mp3.dll file; which you can download here.
Then,
  • For Reaper, extract into it's root directory (usually C:\Program Files\Reaper]) That's it.
  • For Audacity, extract into it's root directory (usually C:\Program Files\Audacity\) Then, next time you try to export to MP3, it'll prompt you to tell it where the lame_enc.dll file is. Tell it, then you're all good. :)

Only reaper costs a small fortune, and there are better alternatives if you're gonna pay for software.

If you own a mac, you cant go past pro-tools, it's the industry standard, bar none. Pro-tools works on windows as well, but isn't as great. For windows there is Adobe Audition, which is just sweet, and is what I use for hardcore audio engineering.

Audacity's brilliance is in it's price, it's free, and considering its free, it's pretty good.

Legally, $50 isn't that much for such a bloody great program.
But, I've had Reaper for for about 120 days now; and haven't paid a cent.

Woopdy do, I have to wait for 6 seconds before I can run it. Is that really that bad? Everything still works 100%

With Audacity, you don't have to wait at all.

Edit: Okay, I downloaded Reaper and had a look, pretty good. sucks about the evaluation warnings, but nothing a keygen can't fix :D

the best thing to do would be to go to temp interent files and save the FLV. Then use a program to covert the FLV to MP3, you would acheive optimum quality then.
